Saratoga Race Course prepares for opening day

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Opening day of the racing season at Saratoga Race Course is Thursday.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and post time is 1 p.m.


This year the track will be open for a couple of extra weeks. The track will be open through Labor Day. The track will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during the season.

Former Yankees player Mariano Rivera will be at the track on Friday. Shaker High student and "American Idol" finalist Madison Vandenburg will also be in attendance.

On Wednesday evening, Siro's will host the Newton Plaza Siro’s Cup, which will benefit the Center for Disabilities Services. The event is held annually on the eve of opening day.
