A.G.’s office collects 172 guns during buyback event

Attorney General Letitia James announced yesterday that 172 guns and over 50 pounds of ammunition were turned in to law enforcement at a gun buyback event hosted by the Attorney General’s office.

The buyback was held in the town of Camillus in Onondaga County and was co-hosted by the Camillus police department.
New Yorkers turned in 91 long guns 51 handguns 26 non-working guns, and four assault rifles.
The Attorney General’s office exchanges compensation on site for any working or non-working unloaded firearm and ammunition with no questions asked.
Attorney General James’ ongoing buyback initiative has taken nearly 3,500 guns off the streets since 2019 when she first took office and the Attorney General’s office has successfully collected almost 5,500 guns since 2013.
