Abuse cases against Diocese of Albany can proceed

Eight cases against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany can move to trial.

Those cases name several clergy on the diocese’s list of clergy credibly accused of sexual misconduct.

A federal judge says that they can now move to trial. They had been on hold since March 2023, when the diocese filed for bankruptcy.

The diocese says: “We pray that today’s ruling is in the best interest of the survivors …While we disagree that this process will effectively aid in the mediation process to provide the greatest relief to the greatest number of claimants, we respect the court’s decision and will move forward accordingly.”
