Man accused of setting dog on fire due in court Friday

ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT)- Accused animal abuser Christopher Maxwell is due back in Albany County Court Friday morning to accept or reject a plea.
Maxwell was caught on video setting fire to a dog in a crate on February 24 just after 7 a.m. He was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, arson and criminal mischief.
Latisha Ellis, co-owner of the dog was also charged with animal cruelty. She and Maxwell are accused of going on vacation for 12 days leaving the pit bull without adequate food or water.
Ellis accepted a plea at the beginning of June allowing her to avoid jail time. She is scheduled to be sentenced to five months probation in August and cannot own, possess or live with animals for 50 years.
