Dozens evacuated from Albany apartment complex due to emergency repairs

Around 45 people who live at Parkview Apartments in Albany were evacuated Sunday night due to emergency repairs.

The apartment complex is Section 8 housing. Many of the people who live there are elderly and disabled.

News Channel 13 spoke to Rick Lajoy. He is the director of the Department of Buildings and Regulatory Compliance for Albany. He says water got into the main electric system, which short-circuited the main power for six floors.

Lajoy says people will be displaced until the power can be restored.

NewsChannel 13 also spoke to a service coordinator for the apartment complex. She says the people who live here will be going to the Comfort Inn.

We were able to get inside one apartment. We could evidence of flooding.

Some residents are dealing with flooding, while others say they don’t have power. Having to be evacuated has been an inconvenience for some people.

Owusu Anane is a councilman who represents this part of Albany. He bought pizza for some of the residents.

Apartment management helped to coordinate the relocation effort.
