Basketball fans flock to MVP Arena for March Madness

Thousands of people came to Albany for the first round of the Men’s NCAA tournament Friday night.

Friday was Saint Patrick’s Day, so a lot of people wore green and had on basketball jerseys.

Basketball fans traveled from near and far. News Channel 13 spoke to UCONN fans who drove all the way from Montreal to watch UCONN.

News Channel 13 also spoke to fans in the Capital Region who came to watch the games as well.

The Men’s NCAA tournament was suppose to come to Albany in 2020, but it was cancelled due to COVID.

Some fans say they planned to come 3-years-ago, so they were eager to come Friday.

The second round action will take place Sunday.

Some fans who attended the game Friday say they will be in attendance Sunday.
