A homicide is under investigation on Pleasant Street in Bennington.

Lieutenant Camillo Grande with Bennington Police say they got a call around t 9:15, Wednesday morning about shots fired at 324 Pleasant St. When officers arrived, they found a 38-year-old male inside his home, dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

Neighbors watched as police continued their investigation into the late hours. “I’m not surprised that anything like this would happen in this neighborhood, or in Bennington in general because a lot of bad stuff has been going on here lately,” said one of the residents.

Police Chief Paul Doucette says they have two people in custody as persons of interest. Doucette says detectives have been questioning those people, but there’s a third person they believe may be involved. That person is not from Vermont and they’re relying on their partnership with other law enforcement agencies to help locate that person. “I do believe that the community is still at risk, because we don’t have everyone in custody we would like to have in custody, and as we continue to go through the night here, we continue to collect evidence,” said Chief Doucette.

At this time the victim’s name has not been released.
