Capital Region shelters provide major lifeline in brutal cold

Shelters across the Capital Region are urging people to come inside and stay warm.

The Capital City Rescue Mission in Albany is offering beds and six meals a day — one breakfast, two snacks, two lunches and one dinner.

There are also additional volunteers to help serve meals.

In addition to the beds and mats available at night, director Perry Jones is encouraging people to even stay during the day.

The cold temperatures are expected to last through Saturday.

WARMING CENTERS

With frigid temperatures expected Friday, Feb. 3 and
Saturday, Feb. 4, the following warming centers will be available in the city of Pittsfield for
those who may need some relief from the cold.

Ralph J. Froio Senior Center, 330 North St. The center will be open 8 a.m. 4 p.m.

Berkshire Athenaeum, 1 Wendell Ave. The library will be open 9 a.m.5 p.m. on Friday

Additionally, the shelter housed in the former St. Josephs High School at 22 Maplewood Ave.,
will be open 24 hours each day for those seeking relief.
