Cases resolved of two aides charged in death of Gloversville woman at assisted living facility

The cases of a 73-year-old Gloversville woman with special needs who died at a supervised living facility in 2022 have been resolved – with one of the people charged in her death getting probation and the other serving one year in jail.

Patricia Nicholls was found unresponsive in the overnight hours of Oct. 28, 2022 at the Lexington ARC facility in Gloversville. She was in a bedroom suffering from cardiac arrest. She died a few days later.

Two aides were accused of leaving her unsupervised in a wheelchair, which caused her to have injuries that blocked her circulation and led to her death.

Sarah Mango was charged with criminally negligent homicide. Both Mango and Jacquelyn Bayless were charged with reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, and falsifying business records.

The falsifying business records claim stemmed from an allegation that they did not proper accurate documentation of how often they checked on Nicholls.

13Investigates checked in to find the resolution of the matter and filed formal records requests with Fulton County Court to get access to the disposition of the case.

Mango pleaded guilty in April to falsifying business records and was sentenced to probation.

Bayless pleaded guilty to falsifying business records and was sentenced January 2024 to one year in jail. She has since been released, according to jail records.

The Justice Center was working with the Gloversville Police Department and Fulton County District Attorney’s Office to investigate the case.

The Justice Center deferred comment to the DA’s Office.

Fulton County District Attorney Michael Poulin did not return a message or email seeking comment regarding why the charges were reduced.
