Child, 4, dies in North Adams fire
A 4-year-old has died and two family members seriously injured after a fire in a duplex on West Shaft Road in North Adams late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, according to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.
The fire at 188-190 West Shaft Road started around 11:46 p.m. Tuesday. When emergency crews got to the duplex, it was already fully engulfed in fire, the District Attorney’s Office said.
Seven people lived in the duplex, according to the Cantoni family. When the home became engulfed just before midnight Tuesday night, six people were inside, three kids and three adults. Joe Cantoni, the head of the household, was at work at Walmart.
The five people who escaped had to jump from a second story window. Sadly, little Ensley Cantoni, just 4-years old, never made it out.
Firefighters from North Adams, Clarksburg and Williamstown worked on putting out the fire throughout the early morning hours of Wednesday.
