Congressman Tonko holds roundtable to discuss impact of CHIPS and Science Act

More details are coming out on the CHIPS and Science Act, and how it could help the semiconductor industry. Places like GlobalFoundries would benefit. President Biden recently signed it into law.

This is welcome news for people in the Capital Region.

Congressman Paul Tonko was joined by college presidents and as well as representatives from key semiconductor industry stakeholders for a roundtable discussion on Wednesday. They gathered at Hudson Valley Community College.

The CHIPS and Science Act is expected to give billions of dollars for semiconductor research and development with schools across America and in the workforce. The bill is expected to support the expansion of GlobalFoundries. Tonko says this will be a great avenue for people to find jobs.

“A really good opportunity for the trades, people with an associates degree, all the way up the degree ladder, so there is room for everyone in this,” said Tonko.
