Correction officer admitted to planting drugs on inmate – now he’s suing
Only on 13: A former Marcy Correctional Facility inmate is suing the prison, a correction officers and several others for planting drugs on him.
The one officer named in this suit admitted to doing the crime and was charged for it.
The incident happened in December 2021.
The lawsuit claims the inmate, Eric Johnson was thrown against a wall and slammed on the floor twice. That’s when he says pills were planted on him.
The correction officer who was charged is Connor Cavanaugh. He pleaded guilty last year to two misdemeanors and two felonies including tampering with physical evidence.
Marcy Correctional Facility is also the same prison where Robert Brooks died after being brutally attacked by several COs. This gained national attention and sparked a New York State investigation into other wrong-doings at the facility.
Johnson is still serving time on a drug-related conviction at a prison in Malone, New York which is near the Canadian border.
The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision declined to comment.
