FBI releases name of border agent killed in Vermont traffic stop

The FBI has released the name of a U.S. Border Patrol agent killed in Vermont during a traffic stop. 

It happened around 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Agent David “Chris” Maland stopped a vehicle on Interstate 91 in the town of Coventry. 

During the traffic stop, there was an exchange of gunfire, police said. Maland was struck. He later died from his injuries.

Also, one of the occupants of the vehicle and another one was injured and is being treated at the hospital, according to the FBI. 

The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that the suspect who died is a German national on a current visa. 

Malan is a U.S. Air Force veteran.

The investigation is ongoing.
