Fisherman recovering after falling through ice in Berkshire County

A fisherman is recovering after falling through the ice in Pittsfield.
It happened Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 7:45 a.m. on Onota Lake. Pittsfield firefighters responded to the scene.
There were initial reports that the fisherman had gotten out, but while firefighters were on their way, the angler fell in again and was in distress.
When they arrived at the boat launch at Burbank Park, they saw two fishermen near the scene and one in the water. Firefighters put on their cold-water rescue suits to rescue the fisherman.
While they were getting close to him, a section of ice shelf broke off. The fisherman was tied to the fire department’s ice slide, and he was removed from the water.
The fisherman was taken to Berkshire Medical Center with hypothermia. He is expected to make a full recovery.
One firefighter also was treated at the hospital due to the failure of his cold-water suit. He is expected to recover.
