Former head of nonprofit sentenced for stealing

The former head of a publicly funded non-profit that runs homeless shelters across Massachusetts is going to jail for one year for stealing one and a half million dollars.

70-year-old Manuel Duran was also sentenced to four years of probation and 250 hours of community service after pleading guilty to larceny and perjury.

Duran served as executive director of a facility that sheltered over 100 Spanish speaking families.

In an unrelated civil case, Duran previously agreed to pay a $6 million dollar settlement on allegations that he funneled state money into his personal accounts.
