Furniture, frozen hydrants challenge firefighters at Pittsfield blaze

Firefighters in Pittsfield were busy on Monday. A fire broke out at 120 Holmes Road, just before 5 p.m.

The home was covered in plywood and firefighters didn’t know if it was vacant, they said.

Furniture inside blocked the halls and made it much more challenging for firefighters to search the home, they said. There was also an issue with a frozen hydrant.

The fire was knocked down in about 15 to 20 minutes, firefighters said.

The homeowner later arrived unharmed.

There is no word yet on a cause.
