After weeks of tension, and even some rallies, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s pick to lead the state’s top court has been voted down.
Judge Hector LaSalle’s nomination was voted down Wednesday afternoon by a panel of state lawmakers, after a five-hour hearing.
The next step could be a court challenge from the Hochul administration.
LaSalle has faced opposition from lawmakers from both sides of the aisle. They have said rulings LaSalle has backed over his career have been too conservative.
