New law to stop horse doping takes effect
The Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Act took effect Friday. The law aimed at stamping out doping in horse racing was signed into law in December of 2020, after six years of lobbying efforts.
The first safety rules went into effect Friday include enhanced jockey safety requirements and veterinary reporting obligations.
The sport has been under intense scrutiny in recent years over on-track deaths, doping and other high-profile controversies.
