Lamborghini buyer: “I was scammed”

COLONIE – Mike Abatecola had finally saved up enough money so that he could purchase his dream car, a bright orange Lamborghini from BUL Automotive in Colonie. Unfortunately, the dream was short lived and quickly turned into a nightmare.

Lamborghini buyer: I was scammed

The NewsChannel 13 News Team presents a report of local, regional, statewide and national news events.

Over the past seven or eight years, Abatecola says he’s purchased several high end cars from BUL, including a Rolls Royce and a McLaren.

When his bank contacted him recently to tell him the dealership never paid them for the Lamborghini, the car was gone, and he knew he had been scammed.

“He didn’t have to pretend to be everyone’s friend,” Abatecola said. “That’s how he got everybody. He would say come up to my beach house. In my case, giving me the Range Rover for the weekend, but every single body was taken because he was friends with him.”

Abatecola was so angry, he recorded a video in front of the dealership explaining his predicament. When he posted it on social media, more than a dozen other car buyers contacted him claiming to be scam victims of the same dealership.

“It’s like me giving you $200,000 thinking you’re going to the right think and pay my bank off,” he said. “That did not happen so I felt like a fool in the beginning and everybody was going to laugh at me and say I deserved it.”

Abatecola’s wife, Rachel, says she is disheartened and disappointed.

“There were no red flags along the way over the last seven or eight years,” she said. “the only red flags were started over this deal that we did this year. This has never happened to us before with him. He’s always provided immaculate service.”

“I guarantee you, there’s more than ten million dollars of people who got ripped off,” Mike said. “I know for a fact there is. It’s nationwide. Con men, they know how to play you. I didn’t see it.”

With his Lamborghini in limbo, and now having heard from more than a dozen other alleged victims, Abatecola says he’s thinking about a class action lawsuit. In the meantime, federal, state, and local authorities tell News Channel 13 they’re looking into the matter.
