Medical Aid in Dying Act passes in New York Senate

ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT)- The Medical Aid in Dying Act was passed by the New York Senate Monday.

The bill would allow people who are terminally ill and mentally capable to ask their physician for assistance in dying.

New York joins a handful of other states that allow physician-assisted death including Maine, New Jersey and Vermont, according to End of Life Choices New York.

The bill now goes to Governor Hochul’s desk to be signed into law.
