A new playground is being built in Colonie in honor of a girl who died of cancer.

The playground in honor of Charlie Fernandez hopes to be an all-ability playground and construction will start in June.

The playground is a group effort between where angels play and the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.

Charlie’s father, Jason Hernandez, said that she loved to play on playgrounds with her sister and that he appreciates all the community support.

“It feels good but it’s very overwhelming,” said Hernandez. “There are a lot of good people out there in the world, still, with everything going on, coming together for a good cause,” he said.

They are also calling on people to volunteer to help build the playground.
