New pope delivers first Mass
Newly elected American Pope Leo XIV delivered his first Mass Friday inside the Sistine Chapel.
The pope spoke in both English and Spanish, a reflection of his background as an American and Peruvian citizen.
Meanwhile, American cardinals are now talking about the voting during the Conclave. They talked about how the 133 cardinals from all over the world are well-aware of the political climate in the United States. That did not impact their decision at all, they said.
Pope Leo, formerly Robert Francis Prevost, was born and raised in Chicago. He still has family there.
He’s the youngest of three brothers. They’re all very close, one of them saying he was on the phone with the new pope last week playing “Words With Friends” and “Wordle.”
The new pope also said he watched the movie “Conclave” before the start of the conclave at the Vatican.
Hear from one of his brothers as he talks about the shock of his brother being the pope now by watching the video of Subrina Dhammi’s story.
