The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office presented a man Tuesday with an award for his quick actions helping a deputy.

The deputy, Ethan Thomas, was on routine patrol on Bliss Road in Stratford when he was attacked, says the sheriff.

Donald Holdridge Jr. – who just happened to be passing by – came to the rescue.

Thomas noticed a car was parked the wrong way. Inside the car, there was a hatchet and a baseball bat in the front seat. Thomas says he noticed something was off just by talking with a man who was also there.

He realized the man had a felony drug warrant out of Texas. Thomas says the man resisted arrest and even tried to grab his magazine.

He also says the man had scissors, pepper spray and a box cutter knife.

Holdridge, who is a veteran, was riding in a car with his fiancée on Bliss Road when he saw what was going on.

He quickly told her to stop the car, got out and rushed to the officer’s aid to help get the man under control.
