Rensselaer County is giving a tax break to first responders.

The Rensselaer County Legislature said Wednesday it adopted the local law approving the tax exemption for volunteer first responders. It also adopted a resolution urging the state to increase the amount of the exemption. The tax break is currently 10%.

The goal is to help support recruitment and retention efforts across the county.
