Report: Massachusetts lawmakers have no interest in lifting happy hour ban

Massachusetts lawmakers don’t seem too happy about the return of happy hour.

One top lawmaker says there’s been little interest in lifting the statewide ban on happy hour drink discounts to boost businesses post-pandemic, NewsChannel 13’s media partners at the Berkshire Eagle report.

A bill on the table would allow cities and towns to opt into offering discounted drink promotions at traditional afterwork hours.

Happy hour has been prohibited in Massachusetts since 1984, after a string of deadly drunken driving crashes. It remains the only state in the country to have the ban still in place.
