Man killed in Schenectady house explosion

A man was killed in a house explosion in Schenectady on Friday.

Firefighters responded to 15 Brown St. around 7 p.m. Friday. They found heavy fire and smoke on the first floor, according to Schenectady Fire Chief Don Mareno.

One person was not able to get out of the home, Mareno said. The man’s identity is being withheld until the next-of-kin can be notified, and an autopsy is performed.

The resident that lived on the second floor was not home at the time.

It took around 40 minutes to get the fire under control and an hour to put it out.

There were no other injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Mareno said it does not appear to be suspicious.
