Several key bills heading to Governor Hochul’s desk for final approval

New York State’s legislative session ended this week, and lawmakers passed multiple key bills which will now head to Governor Kathy Hochul’s desk for final approval.

The retail-to-retail bill would allow bars and restaurants to buy small quantities of alcohol, up to six bottles per week, from liquor stores.

Currently, restaurants rely on wholesale deliveries, which legislators say is not enough when businesses run out of liquor mid-week. This bill would allow them to refill at any time.

Two local lawmakers have passed a proposal to create a Holocaust memorial at Empire State Plaza – supporters say at a time when antisemitism is on the rise, it is critical to provide students and the public with the tools to understand the devastating consequences of hatred.

The state legislature also passed a bill which would require advertisers to disclose the use of artificial intelligence. The bill focuses on created characters and carries fines of up to $5,000 per violation.

The state also passed a bill requiring warning labels on addictive social media platforms. This has been a priority for Governor Hochul as well – this bill would warn users that the apps they are entering can be addictive.

The governor has until the end of the year to sign any passed legislation into law.
