The founder of Colwell Law Group dies in a skiing accident at Gore Mountain.

New York State Police tell NewsChannel 13 they are investigating a fatal skiing accident that happened Saturday morning at the Gore Mountain ski area.

A 53-year-old man died in the accident. The man has been identified as Kevin Colwell, the CEO of the Colwell Law Group.

State Police said they responded to the Resort around 11 a.m. Saturday for reports of an injured skier.

They said a severely injured skier had been found in the area of Sagamore Trail, and bystanders and ski patrol staff attempted all life-saving measures available.

Police said despite their efforts, the skier passed away at the scene.

The Colwell Law Group calls Kevin’s death shocking and tragic.

“This is an immense tragedy for all of us at the Colwell Law Group. Kevin built not just a business, but a family, and the loss of his presence is felt deeply by all who had the privilege of working with him,” stated Jennifer Stevens, Chief Operating Officer of the group. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin’s family during this incredibly difficult time. The leadership team is focused on supporting our employees and ensuring continuity within the organization.”

Kevin was not just the Chief Executive Officer but also the founder of the Colwell Law Group.

The Colwell Law Group is a family law firm that Kevin built across the Capital Region, Western, and Central New York. The firm has been in practice for almost 20 years.

The company said Kevin will be profoundly missed but his legacy will live on.

Gore Mountain Ski Area had the Burnt Ridge area of the mountain closed to the public in the afternoon Saturday. The mountain said they expected Burnt Ridge to be back open on Sunday.

State Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
