The perpetrator targets people via email and phone. The scammer urgently demands money for various reasons and sets up a “pickup.”

The victim meets a person at their home or at an agreed-upon location, where the scammer provides them with a “code word” and then takes the money.

Police are reminding people to use caution and never provide personal information to anyone or open emails or text messages from people they do not know.
