Stefanik blasts Hochul in speech at state Capitol

Although U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik has not officially entered the race for New York governor, she gave what might be described as a campaign speech on Monday.

Stefanik had very strong words at the state Capitol in Albany, when she spoke about Gov. Kathy Hochul.

“Here we are, another year, another failed, radical, reckless agenda and legislative session in New York state passed by single-party Democrat rule, led by the worst governor in America, Kathy Hochul,” Stefanik said. “I dubbed her the worst governor of America because she is.”

Congresswoman Stefanik slammed Gov. Hochul and Democrats, with highly critical words for the state budget.

Stefanik argues Hochul has failed to address the needs of New Yorkers.

Stefanik said this legislative session will end this week with more spending, more mandates, and more excuses.

“Kathy Hochul and far-left Democrats have once again failed New Yorkers with this year’s legislative session. They have put New York last with this massive, bloated $254 billion budget. It is anti-worker, anti-family, anti-farm, anti-small business, anti-manufacturer, and anti-law enforcement,” Stefanik said. “This budget and legislative agenda proposed by Democrats continues New York down the path to catastrophe, further exacerbating the affordability crisis and the crime crisis.”

Stefanik said Hochul’s radical agenda is driving businesses and hard-working families out of New York state.

Congresswoman Stefanik said this all comes on top of what she called Hochul’s “$10 million hidden taxpayer fund” to defend Attorney General Letitia James for alleged wrongdoing.

The Trump administration has referred James for potential prosecution for alleged mortgage fraud. The director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, making accusations that James had “falsified records” to obtain loans for a property in Norfolk, Virginia. James, who has been attorney general since 2019, had claimed that the property was her “principal residence” in 2023, according to media reports.

The New York State Democratic Party released this statement in response:

“Elise Stefanik dodged question after question because there’s no good way to defend ripping away health care from two million New Yorkers. While Stefanik lies to her constituents’ faces about her and Trump’s plan to gut Medicaid, New Yorkers see right through it – and they know Governor Hochul’s budget puts money back in their pockets, cuts taxes for the middle class, and makes our streets and subways safer.”
