Names released in Troy police officer's unintentional shot fired over the weekend.

Troy Police have charged the suspect involved in the incident in which an officer accidentally discharged his weapon.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Saturday afternoon around 1 p.m. because it had been reported stolen on Friday. The vehicle did not stop, and the suspect continued to cross the Waterford Bridge from Lansingburgh into Waterford, police said.

When the driver turned into Division Street, the vehicle struck a metal road sign and came to a stop. Officer Anthony Gallo got out of his vehicle, lost his footing while approaching the suspect, and unintentionally fired his weapon, police said. Both the officer and suspect were taken to the hospital.

The suspect, Anthony J. Bonaparte, 33, has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation-previous conviction, failure to comply with a lawful order, unlicensed operator and traffic violations.

Gallo has been a police officer for six years and with the Troy Police Department for the last two years.

Both Gallo and Bonaparte are now out of the hospital, according to police.
