Taking a closer look at Troy SNUG

One organization in Troy is continuing to prevent violence before it happens.

Their name says it all: SNUG It’s an acronym for “Should Never Use Guns” and the word guns spelled backwards.

You may have seen SNUG outreach workers in the neighborhood after a shooting. After a shooting occurs, they educate the community on what happened to prevent more violence.

However, they do more. When the SNUG team gets in every day, they have a daily huddle. This is where they strategize on what they will do for the day.

SNUG also holds monthly events to engage with their youth and young adult participants.

James Chestnut is the program manager. He says doing things with the participants is also a great way to prevent violence.

SNUG outreach workers say they have mediated several conflicts before it turned to violence.
