Third person dies as result of lightning strike in Lafayette Park
A third person has died after being struck by lightning near the white house on Thursday.
Police confirmed Friday that in addition to two elderly tourists from Wisconsin who were killed by a lightning strike in Lafayette Park in Washington a 29 year old man has also died from a strike.
A fourth person remains hospitalized. White house officials have expressed their condolences and concern.
Thunderstorms moved through D.C. and the surrounding areas about 6:30 Thursday evening.
Severe weather drenched parts of the region after a sweltering day of temperatures in the mid-90s and heat indexes over 100.
A teenager in Chicago was also struck by lightning on Thursday.
