Three teens charged with attempted murder in Amsterdam shooting

Three teens are facing attempted murder charges in a shooting Thursday afternoon in Amsterdam.

It happened at around 1:10 p.m. on Kline Street. A man was shot twice in the stomach area, police said. He was taken to Albany Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He remains in serious condition.

Officers were able to follow the path the three suspects took and found two handguns used in the incident. They were collected and submitted for forensic analysis, police said.

The investigation has taken police detectives beyond Amsterdam because some of the parties in this case are not residents of Amsterdam, according to police.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police assisted in patrolling the area, which led to the suspects’ quick capture.

Two of the suspects are 17 years old and one is a 16-year-old.

In addition to attempted murder, they are facing charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The 16-year-old is also facing a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

All three were arraigned in Montgomery County Youth Court and sent without bail to the custody of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
