Hundreds of General Electric workers from across the country rallied Tuesday in Schenectady. They’re demanding more money and union protections.

Organizers are calling this the largest national direct action by GE workers in years.

“So far in 2022, we’ve added 50 new manufacturing jobs to our Schenectady site and are hiring for another 25 roles by the end of the year,” a GE spokesperson said in a statement sent to NewsChannel 13.

GE began in 1892 when Thomas Edison’s Schenectady factory, Edison General Electric, merged with the Thomson-Houston Company of Lynn, Massachusetts.
