Unplug at Grafton’s Winterfest

Winterfest at Grafton Lakes State Park

People came out to Grafton to get some fresh air and enjoy the great outdoors.

Grafton, N.Y. (WNYT) – People came out to Grafton, braving the cold, to get some fresh air and enjoy the great outdoors. Some even took a dip in the freezing water.

The 40th annual Grafton Winterfest is organized by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.

There were food vendors and family-friendly activities.

People also got to meet some animals and take a ride on a snowmobile and a horse-drawn carriage.

There was even a Polar Plunge.

The acting commissioner of NYS Parks was there in support of Governor Kathy Hochul’s Unplug and Play initiative, all to help support parks across the state.

“We’re going to do an investment in playgrounds. We’re going to do an investment in swims. We’re going to do an investment in these community centers, our parks all across the state, 250 properties, because they aid our communities in such deep ways, like mental, physical wellness,” said Commissioner Pro Tempore Randy Simons. “It’s more important than ever to get outdoors, get off those devices.”

Simons says Unplug and Play helps to bring people out to our state parks and it promotes a healthy lifestyle.
