Vigil being held to mark two years since Samantha Humphrey went missing

A vigil was held in Schenectady Friday night for Samantha Humphrey

Samantha was 14 years old when she was killed two years ago.

Family and friends of Samantha Humphrey came together Friday evening to honor her life.

Samantha went missing in Schenectady in November of 2022. The 14-year-old was found dead in the Mohawk River in February 2023.

No arrests have been made in her death.

The vigil began at 6:30 p.m. Friday, at the Front Street Pool in Schenectady. It included a walk, and two minutes of silence for the two years Samantha has been gone.

Family members are praying for an arrest and conviction of Samantha’s killer, they said. They welcomed the community to mourn a life lost too soon.

Jeff Humphrey, Samantha’s father, said he believes there is enough evidence for an arrest in the murder of his daughter.

“We think from the evidence that we have, let alone the evidence the police have, there’s more than enough of a case to get this person off the streets — not just for her murder, but for putting her body in a river. That’s a separate felony,” Jeff said.

Samantha’s great-grandmother Marilyn Humphrey is praying for justice for her great granddaughter.

“This is a time of Thanksgiving, and we have a gift to give. We have $20,000 we’d like to give to somebody. Come forward with a clue, a viable clue. $20,000 is a nice piece of change at this time of year. And if you give us that clue, we’ll be ever so thankful,” Marilyn said.
