Liberty ARC employee honored

Liberty ARC in Montgomery County is celebrating one of its employees. Samantha Anthony has been named the 2023 New York State Direct Support Professional of the Year. The award is given by the American Network of Community Options and Resources. That organization is focused on federal policy and shared solutions to strengthen the ability of community-based providers to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Statewide BOCES competition

Nearly 70 students from 19 local school districts will represent Capital Region BOCES during a statewide competition later this month. It tests their abilities in the skilled trades and workplace. The competition is set to be held at the New York State Fairgrounds from April 26 through April 28. Winners advance to the national competition in June.

Little free library at Stuyvesant Plaza

Stuyvesant Plaza is unveiling a new miniature little free library to celebrate National Poetry Month. It’s fully stocked with titles from The Book House, a shop located in the plaza. The library was built from an upcycled newspaper rack. The library is located in the plaza’s breezeway, between Rad Soap Co. and Primal – Your Local Butcher.

Sunmark Community Shred Day

Sunmark Credit Union will host a community shred day on Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Bring your unwanted documents to the Latham branch to be shredded on the spot. Sunmark will also be collecting new and like-new baby items for a community baby shower drive.
