March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and New York Oncology Hematology is raising awareness about the importance of getting screened early.

The organization is holding a fundraising event on March 30 at Carson’s Woodside Tavern in Malta. There will be food and live music.

This is all being spearheaded by Keri Alonzo, an area singer and cancer survivor who has been profiled on NewsChannel 13.

Tickets are $20 ahead of time and $30 at the door.

Alonzo knows firsthand how critical early detection is, she said.

All funds collected will support the foundation’s efforts to provide patient education and financial assistance to people getting cancer treatment.
