New Albany County resolutions aim to improve mental health services

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy on Tuesday announced the approval of four resolutions to improve mental health services in the criminal justice system.

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy on Tuesday announced the approval of four resolutions to improve mental health services in the criminal justice system.

The county will re-allocate grant funds to go toward these resolutions, McCoy said.

The resolutions include a justice and mental health collaboration program. It will connect people who have been released from prison with a care manager.

Re-entry services will address the immediate needs of recently released people, like housing and food.

The jail diversion resolution is meant to address the root causes of criminal behavior, and help people make positive connections.

There are plans to expand the county’s mental health court, a diversion program for people with non-violent misdemeanor or felony charges.
