New York state looks to increase organ donor numbers

April is Donate Life Month, and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles is looking to boost the number of registered organ donors.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced last fall a major milestone that for the first time, more than half of eligible New Yorkers had registered to become donors through the state’s organ donor registry. That number has since climbed.

There are more than 7,900 New Yorkers awaiting an organ transplant, according to Donate Life.
