St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam is raising the flag for life to acknowledge the lifesaving gifts of organ donations.

St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam is raising the flag for life to acknowledge the life-saving gifts of organ donations.

The flag-raising ceremonies helped mark the end of National Donate Life Month, which was in April.

St. Mary’s also acknowledges organ donors with an honor walk at the time of donation.

More than 100,000 people are on the national waiting list, and another person is added every eight minutes.

Seventeen people on that list die every day waiting for a transplant.

Any New Yorker 16 years and older can register to become an organ donor here.
