Women-owned businesses make major impact on Capital Region

According to the Albany Business Review, since April of 2022, 448 women-owned businesses qualified as Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises. By the end of 2024, that number had climbed to 571 – a 27% increase over just two years.

March is Women’s History Month.

NewsChannel 13 will be featuring many of the women who own and run businesses throughout the Capital Region.

According to U.S. Census Bureau data from December 2024, there were 5.9 million employer firms in the United States. Around 1.3 million were owned by women – that’s just over 22.3%. 

Women-owned businesses had an estimated $2.1 trillion in receipts, 11.4 million employees and $508.5 billion in annual payroll.

Here in the Capital Region, women have a big impact on the bottom line.
