TROY - Firefighters in Troy were out early Monday morning fighting a massive house fire.

The first calls came in for the fire on Campbell Avenue just after 6 a.m. Monday.

The fire caused extensive damage to the building.

"At this point, we are operating under the premise that it could be a vacant structure,” said Troy Fire Chief Eric McMahon. "We are told that the building owner is not at this residence. He's either moved to a nursing home or he has previously been deceased."

Help was called in from the Watervliet Fire Department.

The Troy chief says the entire back of the house is destroyed.

Investigators were combing through debris Monday afternoon.

The fire chief says it's too early to determine a cause.
