SARATOGA SPRINGS - When customers of the former Lake Local visit here in the next few days, they'll see a $6.5 million transformation.
Lake Local was a popular waterfront bar and restaurant before a fire in April 2018.
This new restaurant took years of planning and construction.
The sprawling bar connects the indoor and outdoor spaces, which can accommodate up to 400 people at full capacity.
However, full capacity won't be for a while and it's reservations-only to start.
"The entire back of it opens up, and then we've got a huge patio, so if anyone's going to feel safe anywhere, I would hope and think that it would be here," said John Boyle, managing partner of 550 Waterfront.
The year-round resort opens next Thursday says Boyle, who grew up in East Greenbush and fell in love with the location while boating on the lake a few years ago with a fellow La Salle Institute grad.
The 550 in the name comes from its Union Avenue address, which happens to be about a mile from Saratoga Race Course.
"We definitely think there'll be a good horse crew down there this summer," said Boyle, who fully expects business to take off, especially when customers see the space.
"I think their mouths are going to be agape, I really do. I think they're going to be minds blown."
Saratoga Springs Mayor Meg Kelly says the city has granted the restaurant's certificate of occupancy, so Boyle says he'll turn the open sign on next Thursday and has no plans to turn it off.
