According to the department, officer Adam Harbour was not working when he heard the altercation inside the second floor apartment. Harbour then went upstairs and witnessed 25-year-old Colin Davis stabbing his estranged wife.

Police said Officer Harbour instructed Davis to stop several times. The requests were ignored before Harbour fired one round from a shotgun, killing Davis.

The female victim is at Albany Medical Center in fair condition.

As is protocol, Harbour has been placed on administrative duty. In his three years with the department, his record has been spotless.

The Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office and the State Attorney General’s Office are investigating.
