MYSTIC, Conn. – Growing up, Roderick Coleman didn’t want to be a doctor or a police officer. He wanted to operate the Mystic drawbridge, and he’s done a pretty great job for 33 years.

Five days a week for the past 33 years, Coleman has operated a computer board, sounding the bell to allow boats through this channel at the bridge.

Coleman – with his trusty binoculars – ensures people are clear of the bridge as it goes all the way up and makes its way back down.

You can bet with more than 33 years, he’s made some memories.
