LAKE GEORGE - The longest serving mayor in New York state history was honored by his peers late Monday afternoon.

Lake George Mayor Bob Blais has led the village for 50 years, but didn't want anyone to make a big deal of the milestone.

So his fellow board members surprised him with a resolution honoring his five decades of service.

Monday marked 50 years that Blais presided over his first village board meeting.

The 84-year-old is planning to retire when his term expires in two years.
