Anna Smith is living her best life. She leads a mortgage team at PrimeLending in Saratoga Springs that's been nominated, "Saratoga's Best Lender."

It is fulfilling work to help first-time homebuyers achieve the American dream.

However, success came at a price. She had to be courageous, reinvent herself and work hard - something she learned as a child who loved horses.

From humble beginnings, she became an exercise jockey for racehorses.

That life took her around the country to Kentucky, New Orleans, Florida, and Maryland – and around the world to Canada, England, and Australia. However, things would change for her in Ireland. She had been abused and nearly lost everything – at one point ending up down a flight of stairs. She wanted out.

With Smith $20,000 in debt and no job, a friend in Saratoga Springs mislead her - telling her she'd found her a job in the United States. It was Smith's way out - and set her on a course of happiness. A second friend let Smith live with her.

In Saratoga, she met someone with PrimeLending and made him a promise that if she were hired, she will be her number one producing loan officer.

She kept her word when it comes to that branch. She hopes her story changes the lives of women in domestic violence situations - reminding them they still have a choice.
