What does it mean to be a woman? "National Geographic" is trying to answer that question through its new collection of images of women from around the world.

The images capture women across 130 years and 50 countries. They shine a spotlight on the resilience of women in challenging environments across the globe to the activism of women in this country.

"National Geographic" editor Susan Goldberg says the book took a year and a half to produce. It shows how women have transformed the world.

While the book chronicles women's achievements across the board, around the world, Goldberg cautions that not all women have achieved equality or success.
